ERNST WEISS.
Ernst David Weiss, alias Walter Lock was a soviet agent recruited in Cologne in 1931 for work in the UK, working successively for HARRY-1, HARRY-2 and Henri Robinson (known to him as ANDRE).
Introduced by his recruiter, Hans Demetz, to HARRY-1 in Paris probably in January 1932.
Entered the UK in May 1932 to undertake "industrial research".
Worked under the direction of HARRY-1 in London until February 1934, when he saw HARRY-1 for the last time in Zürich.
Taken over by HARRY-2 at a rendezvous in Switzerland.
Saw HARRY-2 for the last time in Paris in July 1937.
Meeting with Henri Robinson in Jersey from September 2nd until September 6th.
Last meeting with Robinson in July 1939 in Paris. he himself claims that his connection with Robinson and intelligence activities then ceased.
A message from Robinson to Moscow apparently in response to questions contained a reference to Ernst Weiss (with telephone number PAD 7501, which was that of Weiss's London address since 1933) in conjunction with "PROFESSOR" and PROFESSOR's wife "SHEILA". Robinson's communications with Moscow suggests that Robinson's agent JEAN and his network in England were in financial difficulties and that in February 1941 Moscow had not been able to establish a link with JEAN in replacement of Robinson's own line of communications, which failed after the German occupation of France. In spite of Weiss's denials, it is possible that he had connections with JEAN and his agents in England and even that he might be identical with JEAN.
