We most urgently require sanction to employ this man in the N-Section. His work will be to replace Mr. Whitaker and do all outside contacts with Dutch students and agents.
He is a British subject, age 23 0r 24, married with one child, at present working with MI-5. His knowledge of Dutch is perfect. I have known him for some time, as he worked in the Consulate General at Amsterdam on blockade work during the first period of the war. He was very highly thought of by his chief, Mr. Shepard. He is at present engaged on work where id knowledge of Holland and of the Dutch language is not being used in any way. If we can have sanction to employ him, we can then take the matter up with the Security Section and MI-5.
May I please have your decision as soon as possible?

In principale I am in agreement. Ascertain from MI-5 if he is available. Meanwhile I would like to see him after I have seen the Security report on him. I shall be back on Tuesday lunch time. I could then see the report and the man afterwards.

Reference Capt. J.D. KILLICK
The above mentioned officer has asked to be transferred within this organisation: D/R and AD/E have given their permission. He is willing to take any post within SOE, except in this Section, but has a distinct preference to join D.S.R. Also, I attach a note which I have received from MS, who is asking for his service.
Originally, this officer was charged with contacting students and arranging theit training. On the whole he not get on very well with the students, so that his work was changed and lately he has been controlling five sabotage groups in the field and looking after stores, wireless equipment and codes for agents under our control considerably and has done useful work in connection with all technical questions.
His desire to change to a different Section is prompted by the fact that promotion for him in his present position is out of the question. He is temperamentally unsuited to be No. 2 to a Country Section head, and a Section of my size cannot expect to have more than two G.2's. I should mention that he has handled this matter entirely over my head.
On the whole, I believe he would make an efficient officer for another Section provided he has the hope of getting some personal advancement.

I am returning to you the file of Capt. Killick and for your information I am attaching a folder containing all correspondence relating to this officer; would you please return the latter when convenient.
There is little to add to my note of 1 Oct 43, except that it is very clear that his attempt at getting a job with AMGOT was in close connection with the profit motive which seems to guide this man's thoughts.
Although apparently accepted by the Personnel Board of that organisation he decided to decline whatever employment they had to offer as it had become clear to him that this would mean a substantial reduction in income.
In the circumstances I suggest that his case be put to the SOE Personnel Board as the first possibility, so that the difficult situation now existing in this Section may be settled. I have very little sympathy with a man who is treating this war from the standpoint of personal advancement only, and shall be considerably relieved when he has been removed from my control.

Dear Sirs,
You will remember that I left S.O.E. in August 1944, when I obtained permission to accept the invitation of the Netherlands Government to accept a spcial Commission in the Netherlands Army. I am, therefore, out of touch with the position in the U.K. as regards War Medals etc and should be grateful if you would let me know what the position is in my case.
Before joining S.O.E. in September 1941 I was employed for fourteen months in M.I.5 and for six months of this period was a member of the Home Guard.
I was commissioned by you and my whole British Army service was within the organisation. In the early part of 1944 I spent a couple of months in the Middle East, attached to our S.F. out there, both in Italy and in Egypt. I understand that this entitles me to the Italy and Africa Star under the new regulations.
Apart from these I must be entitled to the 1939-45 War Medal, and I have also been given the impression that I am entitled to the Defence Medal (see para.2, above)
Would you be so good as to let me know what the position is and what steps I have to take to obtain these medals?
With thanks, I remain,
Yours faithfully,
J. Dennis Kuipers
